BOSTON, Mass. — A man was killed by gunfire late Friday while inside a car on Beauford Lane in the city’s Dorchester neighborhood, and Boston police homicide detectives are now trying to determine what happened.

Officers from District B-2, which covers Roxbury, were sent at about 10:26 p.m. on Oct. 23 to a radio call reporting a person shot near 12 Beauford Lane. When they got there, they found an adult man inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the case was handed to the department’s Homicide Unit.

The Boston Police Department has not released the man’s name, his age or where he lived, and it has not said whether he was the driver or a passenger, or whether anyone else was in the car. No arrest has been announced, and the department has not described a suspect, a motive or the weapon used. The department’s public account of the shooting so far is brief, and detectives have released no details about what led up to the gunfire on Beauford Lane.

The Homicide Unit is leading the case and is asking anyone with information to call detectives at 617-343-4470. Tips can also be given without a name through the CrimeStoppers tip line, which also accepts photos and video, and the department says it guards the identities of people who help anonymously.

Fatal shootings in Boston have been running below last year’s pace. Department figures for a recent comparison period showed two fatal shootings in the city, down from six in the same stretch of 2025, and 26 nonfatal shootings, down from 30. Over a full year, the five-year average stands at 197 shooting victims citywide.
