BOSTON, Mass. — David Pastrnak beat Vegas goalie Carter Hart in the third round of a shootout Monday night, and the Bruins held on for a 3-2 win over the Golden Knights at TD Garden in Boston.

Jeremy Swayman set up the finish by turning away all three Vegas shooters, Trevor Connelly, Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner. Swayman made 21 saves during play and picked up his eighth win of the season, the third-highest total in the league so far behind Carolina goalie Pyotr Kochetkov with 10 and Minnesota netminder Jesper Wallstedt with nine.

Boston built a 2-0 lead. Rookie center James Hagens scored for the sixth time this season, and Morgan Geekie added a goal in the second period on a five-minute power play. It was the first time this season Geekie has scored in consecutive games.

That major penalty came after Vegas forward Braeden Bowman caught Bruins center Matt Poitras in the face with an elbow. Poitras left bleeding, came back late in the second with a large protective shell on his helmet, and sat out the third. Coach Marco Sturm had no update on him after the game.

Boston could not add a third goal on the long advantage, and Vegas came back. Mark Stone knocked in a loose puck on a power play at 14:58 of the second, and at 7:23 of the third period Connelly evened the score when he found a loose puck in front and slid it past Swayman for his fifth goal of the year.

The Bruins have now won two straight after back-to-back losses, and the victory was their sixth in a row on home ice. Vegas has dropped five of six since an 8-2 start and has given up a power-play goal in seven of its last eight games.

Boston practices Tuesday and Wednesday before a Thursday night game at Pittsburgh. Vegas plays the Penguins on Tuesday.
