BOSTON, Mass. — Holiday shopping season has officially arrived in Boston. Snowport, the yearly holiday market at Seaport Common, opened its sixth season on Friday, Nov. 6, and a steady rain on the first night did not keep shoppers away from the booths.
This year the market has more than 125 vendors, and organizers limit the lineup to small businesses based in Massachusetts or elsewhere in New England. Shoppers will find holiday decorations and trinkets, local art, jewelry and gift items, along with a food court of 22 vendors that will be serving on every day the market is open.
Several of the sellers are women-owned shops. One of them is Clarke’s Cakes & Cookies, a vegan bakery from Dorchester that is run by a family and is selling baked goods and hot chocolate from its stall. Another familiar booth belongs to Crystal Rock Maple, a two-person family maple business from Livermore, Maine, that puts most of its holiday-season effort into this one market.
Snowport is open seven days a week through Sunday, Dec. 27. The market will not open on Thanksgiving or on Christmas Day, and on Christmas Eve it will wrap up early, at 6 p.m.
Opening and closing times shift from day to day and over the course of the season. The earliest start on any day is 10 a.m., and the latest close is 9 p.m.
Seaport Common sits in the middle of the Seaport district, close to the waterfront, so the market makes an easy stop for people already in the neighborhood for dinner, a show or a walk along the harbor. With almost seven weeks on the calendar, the market gives shoppers plenty of chances to buy gifts from regional makers before the holidays.
