Diners enjoying small plates at Essex Rooftop with Boston skyline in the background

News Summary

The Essex Rooftop has officially opened at the Cambria Downtown Boston Hotel, providing a new dining venue with stunning views of the Boston skyline. Featuring a diverse menu of small plates and innovative cocktails, the rooftop bar compliments The Essex restaurant, which focuses on larger entrées. Designed by restaurateur Kristin Jenkins, the rooftop aims to infuse Boston’s culinary scene with West Coast influences, making it a prime spot for both locals and visitors this summer.

Boston – The Essex Rooftop officially opened its doors on May 22, 2025, at the Cambria Downtown Boston Hotel in South Boston, bringing a new dining and social experience just in time for summer. This rooftop bar adds to the culinary offerings of The Essex restaurant, which debuted earlier in March 2025.

The Essex Rooftop is the latest creation by restaurateur Kristin Jenkins, known for her highly regarded establishment, 1928 Beacon Hill. Jenkins characterizes both the Rooftop and The Essex as an exciting evolution in her culinary journey, aiming to blend Boston’s rich dining culture with flavors inspired by the West Coast.

Situated on the 14th floor, the rooftop bar features breathtaking views of the Boston skyline, providing patrons with a dynamic atmosphere and distinct experiences when compared to the more traditional dining setting at The Essex. The Rooftop offers an expansive menu that focuses on small plates, perfect for sharing among friends or enjoying a casual meal.

Menu Highlights

The Essex Rooftop boasts a variety of small plates, including:

  • Beef carpaccio
  • Mezze board with crudité, pita, and three dips (hummus, labneh, and avocado dip)
  • Salmon crudo
  • Burrata
  • Lobster roll accompanied by chips

Additionally, the bar features an enticing drink menu that includes unique cocktails such as:

  • The Side Door (Hennessy, passionfruit, and lemon)
  • White Sand Beaches (Ghost tequila, prickly pear, and lime)
  • The Essex Rooftop Martini (dark espresso martini)

A selection of wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages round out the offerings for guests looking to enjoy a refreshing drink.

The Essex Restaurant

Complementing the rooftop bar, The Essex restaurant provides a broader dining menu with larger entrées that cater to a variety of tastes. Notable options include:

  • Cavatelli pasta with spicy sausage and kale
  • Jidori chicken with crispy quinoa
  • The Essex burger

The Essex is open seven days a week, featuring breakfast service Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and on weekends from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Dinner hours are daily from 4:00 p.m. until midnight, providing ample opportunity for guests to enjoy the restaurant’s offerings.

Operating Hours

Essex Rooftop’s operating hours vary slightly from The Essex. The rooftop bar is open from 4:00 p.m. to midnight Monday through Friday, and from noon to midnight on weekends, ensuring that guests can enjoy the scenic views and refreshing drinks throughout the summer season.

Location and Atmosphere

The Essex Rooftop occupies the space previously known as Six / West. The redesign provides a contemporary and vibrant atmosphere suitable for both casual outings and celebratory gatherings. With its stunning vistas and an innovative menu, the rooftop aims to become a coveted destination for locals and visitors alike this summer.

As Boston’s social scene continues to evolve, the addition of the Essex Rooftop and The Essex restaurant is poised to make a significant impact, enriching the city’s dining culture with a fresh perspective and culinary flair.
