Emi McSwain, a musician and content creator from Boston, faces recovery after a severe bike accident that resulted in multiple injuries and the theft of her eBike. The 25-year-old Berklee graduate is focused on returning to her life of content creation and educating others about bicycle safety.

Boston – Emi McSwain, a 25-year-old musician and content creator, is on a journey of recovery following a devastating bike accident that occurred on April 28, 2023. The crash, which happened near her home at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Highgate Street in Allston, left McSwain with severe injuries that include two brain bleeds, two skull fractures, a broken sphenoid bone, and hearing loss in her left ear. In addition to her physical injuries, she also experienced Bell’s palsy, which temporarily paralyzed the left side of her face.

McSwain, who graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2022, has built a significant online presence by sharing her experiences of life in Boston. Prior to the accident, she regularly posted videos on Instagram showcasing the city’s lesser-known cafes, her pottery classes, and her volunteer work at food banks. McSwain amassed over 36,000 followers on the platform, with her entertaining and informative content averaging tens of thousands of views.

The bike accident not only introduced a serious physical setback for McSwain but also resulted in the theft of her newly purchased bright blue Blix eBike, worth $1,600, along with her personal belongings at the crash site. She continuously seeks public assistance in recovering her stolen bike, highlighting its importance in her daily commute and lifestyle.

Since her accident, McSwain has received an outpouring of emotional support from her followers. This community engagement has played a crucial role in her recovery, motivating her to aspire to return to her routine of content creation and sharing her life experiences. She aims to resume posting about her adventures in Boston and offer guidance to fellow young Bostonians.

Originally from New Mexico, McSwain moved to Massachusetts in 2009 due to her family’s military obligations. Her passion for music developed in her childhood and continued through her education. Following her graduation, she joined the indie pop band Air Traffic Controller, where she currently serves as a vocalist and keytarist. The band has seen considerable success, boasting over 300,000 monthly listeners on streaming platforms, with their most popular track accumulating 45 million streams.

Educating others about safety is now a significant focus for McSwain, especially concerning the usage of helmets while biking, through sharing her own experiences relating to the accident. She emphasizes the importance of taking safety precautions for cyclists to prevent similar incidents.

Looking ahead, McSwain is excited about revitalizing her social media presence to share more personal narratives alongside her beloved content about Boston’s summer activities. Moreover, she is preparing to release a solo album set for early 2026, which marks an essential milestone in her musical journey.

Despite the hardships she has encountered due to her accident, McSwain is determined to keep moving forward. She believes that by sharing her recovery journey, she can encourage others to stay cautious while biking and contribute positively to her community. As she continues to mend from her injuries, she remains hopeful for the return of her stolen bike, a symbol of her resilience and a reminder of her dedication to her journey as a content creator and musician.
