Acapulcos Mexican Family Restaurant interior, a beloved dining spot in Beverly
After 23 years of serving the Beverly community, Acapulcos Mexican Family Restaurant & Cantina has closed its doors, leaving a significant void for food lovers. Known for its authentic cuisine and warm atmosphere, the restaurant will be missed by many locals who cherished the memories created there. The closure marks a challenging time for the restaurant, following another shut down in Quincy just months prior. Management expresses hope for future opportunities but reflects on the strong community ties formed over shared meals and celebrations.
In a sad turn of events for food lovers and families in Beverly, Acapulcos Mexican Family Restaurant & Cantina closed its doors for the last time on Sunday, April 20, after a dedicated run of 23 years at its location on 900 Cummings Center. This beloved eatery has long been a second home to many in the community, known for its warm atmosphere and delicious authentic Mexican cuisine.
The announcement of the closure came via a heartfelt post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, where the management took a moment to reflect on the years spent pleasing patrons with mouth-watering dishes. They expressed their deep gratitude for the unwavering support from the community, reminding everyone of the many special moments shared over mouthwatering plates of tacos and burritos—think birthdays and anniversaries celebrated amidst the cheerful vibes of Acapulcos!
The fond memories created at Acapulcos are numerous. Many locals recall gathering around tables laden with quesadillas, chimichangas, enchiladas, and fajitas, enjoying laughter and friendship. It’s the kind of place where celebrations took place, and friendships were solidified over shared meals. While the management did not provide specific reasons for the closure, they expressed a hope to find opportunities for relocation in the future. The heartfelt message concluded with a personal touch, thanking patrons with sincerity.
This closure marks the second for Acapulcos in just three months, having also shut down its Quincy location back in January. Just like Beverly, the Quincy location had a strong connection to its community, and management there also expressed a yearning to return someday to serve their loyal customers, highlighting the struggles faced by eateries in recent months.
Acapulcos has seen quite the journey. The first of its kind opened in Sudbury in 2001, laid down by the Brambila family, with hopes of sharing their culinary heritage. However, after facing challenges, even the Sudbury location closed in 2021, shrinking the chain’s presence and leading to only a handful of locations across Massachusetts and Connecticut.
Over the years, Acapulcos expanded its reach with additional locations in Franklin, Milford, Norwood, and Quincy alongside two spots in Connecticut. Yet, despite their best efforts to grow and thrive, the recent closures paint a picture of the challenges the restaurant industry has endured lately. Just a few short years ago, families flocked to the restaurant for a plate of their famous chips and salsa—now, there’s a notable void in the Beverly area.
The impact of Acapulcos’ closing is felt widely throughout the community. Families that frequented the restaurant for celebrations, Sunday dinners, or simply a bite to eat have found a beloved spot vanish from their dining options. As loyal patrons reminisce about the flavorful dishes served with a side of smiles, they now look forward to the day when they can once again enjoy those flavors—wherever Acapulcos may find its new home.
With fingers crossed for brighter days ahead, the management left the door open for the possibility of returning to the community they cherish so much. In the meantime, the heartfelt sentiments shared by both staff and patrons remind us of the profound connections that can be made around good food and shared experiences.
So here’s to Acapulcos—a slice of home, a cherished spot for meals shared among friends and family, and a restaurant that will undoubtedly be missed by many in Beverly and beyond. May the future hold new beginnings and tasty returns!
