In Boston on Wednesday morning, Massachusetts State Police dealt with a chaotic night involving two dangerous incidents. One trooper was bitten during a traffic stop involving an intoxicated individual, while another chase resulted in the apprehension of a woman driving a stolen vehicle at high speeds. Both incidents highlight serious concerns about reckless behavior and public safety on the roads.
It was an eventful and chaotic early morning on Wednesday in Boston, as Massachusetts State Police found themselves in the midst of two separate incidents that tested their resolve and highlighted some pretty alarming behavior on the roads. From a trooper suffering a surprising injury to a dramatic high-speed chase, this night had it all.
The first incident went down on Interstate 93 North near the Furnace Brook Parkway. Police were called in to help deal with a person who was seen dashing through traffic, and as you might imagine, it was not just a stroll in the park. Upon arriving, the troopers quickly realized that the individual was showing clear signs of intoxication. As the officers attempted to address the situation, the unexpected happened. The individual lunged at one of the troopers and bit him on the hand, breaking the skin!
The injured trooper was quickly whisked away by ambulance to Tufts Medical Center in Boston for treatment, where he would hopefully make a swift recovery. Meanwhile, the individual involved in this alarming encounter, who appeared to be struggling with possible suicidal thoughts, was taken to South Shore Hospital for evaluation and care. It’s anticipated that they will face some serious criminal charges as the situation unfolds.
This was when the trooper decided enough was enough. He called in the details and pursued Dunham as she fled at dangerously high speeds—exceeding 90 mph! Her wild ride didn’t end there, as it also turned out that this vehicle was wanted by Boston Police for various dangerous maneuvers including driving the wrong way and striking a light pole. Talk about a reckless night!
As the chase progressed towards I-95, State Police worked quickly to bring the situation under control. They deployed stop sticks, a tactical move to deflate the tires and finally bring the vehicle to a halt near exit 41 in Waltham. Dunham was apprehended without resistance once her vehicle came to a stop, bringing an end to the harrowing chase.
This chaotic night provided a snapshot of some of the challenging situations that law enforcement deals with regularly. It serves as a reminder for all of us to stay safe on the roads and think twice before engaging in reckless behavior. Here’s hoping that both the injured trooper recovers quickly and that the legal system holds those responsible accountable.
