A woman has accused firefighter Terence E. Crosbie of raping her in a hotel room during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Boston – A woman testifying in Suffolk Superior Court has accused Terence E. Crosbie, a 38-year-old firefighter from Dublin, of raping her in a hotel room during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in March 2024. The alleged assault occurred at the Omni Parker House hotel on the morning of March 14.
The woman, who is 29 years old and works as a lawyer, described a harrowing experience that unfolded after a night of socializing. She stated she woke up to find someone in the act of assaulting her. She later sent a text message to a friend immediately after the incident expressing her feelings of hatred and confusion about what transpired.
Crosbie, who has been in jail since his arrest last year, has pleaded not guilty to the charge of rape. The trial is currently ongoing, with both sides presenting their arguments to the jury.
According to the woman’s testimony, she initially met a fellow Irish firefighter, Liam O’Brien, at a bar and went to his hotel room, where they engaged in consensual sex. She testified that she was unaware Crosbie was also present in the room and explained that she fell asleep afterward. When she awoke, she found Crosbie on top of her, which she described in graphic detail.
Prosecutors allege that Crosbie took advantage of the woman’s vulnerable state. The woman recounted further unsettling interactions with Crosbie, claiming that after she woke, he followed her around the hotel room, attempted to kiss her, and pushed her against the wall. Within ten minutes of this encounter, she managed to leave the room and immediately contacted a friend to report the incident.
During cross-examination, the defense attorneys sought to challenge the woman’s account of events, highlighting inconsistencies regarding specifics of the incident, including the status of the bathroom light and some remarks that Crosbie purportedly made during the alleged assault. The woman admitted to consuming approximately five to six beers that night but maintained that she was coherent and in control of her faculties at the time of the encounter.
The prosecution was bolstered by medical evidence presented at the trial, including an examination conducted at the hospital that revealed a vaginal tear consistent with sexual assault. A registered nurse testified that the woman was clinically sober during the examination. This documentation of injuries supports the woman’s version of events, despite the defense’s emphasis on questioning her level of intoxication and memory reliability.
Importantly, Crosbie’s DNA was reportedly not found on the woman, which the defense has cited as a key point in their argument. While the absence of DNA may raise questions, it does not negate the woman’s allegations, which continue to be central to the prosecution’s case.
The trial commenced as jurors listened to the woman’s emotional retelling of the traumatic incident, which aims to establish Crosbie’s guilt in the eyes of the law. The case marks a significant moment in the ongoing conversation about sexual violence and accountability, particularly within the context of larger societal issues surrounding consent and the treatment of victims.
Following the incident, Crosbie was arrested at Logan International Airport while attempting to leave the country. The court proceedings are set to continue as both the prosecution and defense present further testimonies and evidence.
