Boston – The Boston Lyric Opera (BLO) has announced an exciting and diverse lineup for its upcoming 49th season in 2025/26, featuring a blend of classic and contemporary opera productions that promise to engage and inspire audiences.

This season will include four main productions, kicking off with Giuseppe Verdi’s Macbeth on October 10 and 12, 2025. The production will be conducted by David Angus and directed by Steven Maler, showcasing the talents of bass-baritone Norman Garrett as Macbeth and soprano Alexandra LoBianco as Lady Macbeth.

In January 2026, Samuel Barber’s Vanessa will take center stage on January 8 and 10. This production is notable for its collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and features soprano Jennifer Holloway in the title role, conducted by Andris Nelsons.

Another highlight of the season is Gustav Mahler’s Song Of The Earth, set to be performed as an installation from March 20-29, 2026. This piece will also be conducted by David Angus and directed by Anne Bogart, providing a unique operatic experience for attendees.

The comedic Gaetano Donizetti’s Daughter Of The Regiment will close out the season, running from April 24 to May 3, 2026. This production will feature a new English dialogue by playwright Kirsten Greenidge, who draws inspiration from Massachusetts native Deborah Sampson, an important historical figure.

Additionally, BLO will present a new operatic revue titled Ride Of The Valkyries! on November 12, 2025. This performance will showcase a selection of epic arias and will be led by renowned soprano Christine Goerke, once again conducted by David Angus.

The season will also include three concerts: Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 on February 10, 2026, in collaboration with Celebrity Series of Boston; a recital by mezzo-soprano Raehann Bryce-Davis on March 24, 2026; and She Was There, a special event scheduled for June 14, 2026, in partnership with Castle of Our Skins. This concert will highlight the stories of revolutionary Black women in America.

The BLO is committed to its mission of community engagement and will continue offering free and affordable music initiatives. The mobile opera program Street Stage will return this summer, bringing opera to diverse communities in greater Boston.

Highlighting the contemporary themes of strong women, the productions in this season will celebrate their strength and resilience, providing everyone from seasoned opera lovers to new attendees a diverse range of stories to enjoy.

Performances will take place in esteemed venues, including the Emerson Colonial Theatre and the newly renovated Opera + Community Studios located in Fort Point, both offering vibrant and intimate settings for audiences.

Subscriptions for multiple performances are currently available, with individual tickets set to be released later this year. BLO is dedicated to ensuring that its concerts and events remain accessible and engaging for a broad audience, emphasizing inclusion and community connection.

With its 49th season, the Boston Lyric Opera promises an enriching line-up that not only marks a continuation of its operatic legacy but also its ongoing commitment to innovation and community interaction through music.
