Boston is gearing up for a vibrant Pride parade this weekend, coinciding with President Trump’s birthday and a significant ‘No Kings’ protest. Organized by Mass 50501 and the Indivisible Mass Coalition, the protest aims to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights against perceived tyranny from the current administration. With a projected turnout of 1 million spectators, the events highlight resilience and activism in the LGBTQIA+ community. Boston is set to host a significant event this Saturday, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s birthday and a military parade in Washington, D.C. The city will see a combination of celebration and protest as the “No Kings” demonstration takes place alongside Boston’s annual Pride parade.
The No Kings protest is organized by Mass 50501 and the Indivisible Mass Coalition, aiming to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and express dissent against the Trump administration. This year’s Pride theme, “Here to Stay”, encapsulates a spirit of resilience amid rising hostility faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Participants are encouraged to express their views by carrying signs and flags throughout the events, denouncing what they perceive as the tyranny of a fascist regime.
The Boston Pride parade is scheduled to commence at 11 a.m. outside Trinity Church in Copley Square and is expected to conclude at Boston Common around 12:30 p.m. The parade is projected to attract approximately 1 million spectators and about 15,000 participants. Following the parade, a festival will occur at Boston Common from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., accompanied by a 21+ block party at Boston City Hall Plaza from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
To ensure safety, approximately 1,000 police officers will be deployed to monitor both the protest and the parade. Attendees are advised to utilize public transportation due to anticipated street closures in the area. This comes amid heightened security awareness as organizers prepare for the possibility of counter-protests.
The Massachusetts 50501 group, which formed in February, focuses on addressing issues of authoritarianism and corruption. As part of the nationwide “No Kings” movement, protests are expected at nearly 2,000 locations across the United States.
