The company is expanding its Maple Grove facility with a $139.4 million addition, creating new jobs by 2030. The Minnetonka site, valued at $14.8 million, had had past redevelopment and is expected to cease operations by mid-2026. This move highlights the company’s commitment to growth in Minnesota despite broader real estate challenges in the region.
Maple Grove, MN – Boston Scientific, a leading medical device manufacturer, is selling its 226,000-square-foot property located on 24 acres in Minnetonka. This sale is part of the company’s broader strategy to consolidate its operations in fewer locations that are experiencing notable growth.
As part of this strategy, Boston Scientific is currently expanding its facility in Maple Grove. A new 52,000-square-foot addition is underway at the Weaver Lake site, located at 1 Scimed Place. The expansion is estimated to cost approximately $139.4 million and will complement an even larger $170 million, 400,000-square-foot campus, which is scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2025.
The relocation of employees from the Minnetonka site to the new Maple Grove facility is also planned, although the timeline for this move has been adjusted. The company now aims for the employees to transition in the first half of 2026.
The Minnetonka property encompasses laboratory spaces, warehouse facilities, and high-end office environments. While the asking price has not been disclosed, Hennepin County property records reveal that four adjacent parcels at 10700 Bren Road W. have a combined assessed market value of $14.8 million as of 2025. Furthermore, there is an option for the property to be leased back to Boston Scientific through June 2026, with operations expected to cease entirely by that time.
As of March, Boston Scientific employs approximately 10,000 individuals across Minnesota, with locations in Minnetonka, Maple Grove, and Arden Hills. The company’s workforce has effectively doubled over the past 15 years, reflecting significant growth within the state. Despite its headquarters being located in Massachusetts, many of Boston Scientific’s divisions, including its substantial cardiology segment, operate from Minnesota.
Half of the structures in the Minnetonka complex were constructed in 1991, whereas the rest were completed in 2007, with the site undergoing redevelopment in 2013. Prior to its acquisition by Boston Scientific in 2015, the Minnetonka campus was home to American Medical Systems. The area is characterized as affluent and dynamic, benefiting from its proximity to a developing Metro Green Line light rail stop, which enhances its appeal for medical and life science companies.
Boston Scientific’s expansions in Maple Grove are expected to generate 440 new full-time equivalent jobs by 2030, contributing further to regional employment growth. This move comes at a time when the commercial real estate market in the Twin Cities has faced challenges post-pandemic. Notably, the northwest suburbs, including Maple Grove, are experiencing lower vacancy rates, reported at 14.7%, compared to a significantly higher 28.7% for downtown Minneapolis. Other nearby companies, such as UnitedHealth Group, have also recently adjusted their operational footprints in Minnetonka.
