Boston—On August 2, Sup Dummies will host exclusive industry readings of “The Belfast Connection,” a new play by John Donovan, at the Black Box Theater in the Boston Center for the Arts, located at 539 Tremont St., Boston, MA. The play examines the turbulent backdrop of Belfast during the Troubles, using humor and resilience to explore complex themes such as political corruption, organized crime, and the familial ties that bind individuals amidst historical conflict.
The industry readings will feature notable actors including Tori Heinlein, recognized for her role in “White Christmas,” and Josie Marzilli, who will portray the older and younger versions of the central character, Livy O’Loughlin. The cast also comprises talented performers such as Jennifer Barnhart, known for her work in “Avenue Q” and “Sesame Street,” Kade Davis, and Gian Raffaele DiCostanzo from “Jersey Boys,” among others.
The readings will be staged under the direction of Chris Coffey, with Lauren J. Burke serving as stage manager and reading stage directions. This production is a part of Sup Dummies’ commitment to bringing new and engaging narratives to the Boston arts community.
At the heart of “The Belfast Connection” is the story of Livy O’Loughlin, a young girl from Belfast, Northern Ireland. To escape the violent clash of the Troubles, she is sent to live with family members in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The narrative deftly balances the serious themes of identity and the repercussions of war with moments of light-heartedness, reflecting both the struggles and triumphs faced by Livy as she navigates her new life.
Industry professionals interested in attending the exclusive readings are encouraged to contact Sup Dummies at supdummies@gmail.com for further information. This opportunity allows those in the arts to engage with a compelling new work, potentially paving the way for future productions in theater.
In addition to “The Belfast Connection,” the Boston Arts Academy and Wheelock Family Theater, which is supported by The Huntington theatre company, are set to present the fifth installment of the Ufot Family Cycle titled “Kufre n’ Quay.” This continuation of a series emphasizes the vibrant array of new works emerging from the Boston theater scene.

Among these is “The SpongeBob Musical: Theatre for Young Audiences Edition,” slated to run from June 25 through August 28, further enriching the local arts landscape with family-friendly entertainment.
In the realm of visual arts, Kathleen Warren will showcase her work at Pittsford Fine Art on June 6 during the gallery’s monthly First Friday reception, adding another layer of cultural offerings available to the Boston community.
