This annual event, organized by Boston While Black, aimed to foster a sense of belonging and connection among Black residents in a neighborhood often characterized as one of Boston’s whitest and most expensive areas. Attendance for this year’s reunion was anticipated to reach up to 25,000 individuals, marking a significant increase from previous years.
The reunion is notable for being the first held since President Trump’s reinstatement, during which various diversity and inclusion initiatives were dismantled. This change in political climate has had a direct impact on support for Black community initiatives, reflected in Boston While Black’s reported loss of approximately $500,000 in funding from corporate and institutional partners. Despite these obstacles, the event featured programming at two distinct locations: the Lawn on D and Harbor Way.
