Guitarist and keyboardist Josh Hager is preparing for a significant milestone as the band Devo gears up for their much-anticipated performance at the MGM Music Hall in Boston on May 9. This concert marks Devo’s first appearance in Massachusetts since Hager joined the band nearly a decade ago, and it coincides with Hager’s older brother Paul’s birthday and the 60th wedding anniversary of their parents, adding a personal significance to the event.
Hager became a member of Devo in August 2014, an influential band known for their distinctive aesthetic, including matching yellow jumpsuits and robotic movements. Over the years, Devo has released iconic tracks like “Whip It” and their cover of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Despite being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times, they have yet to receive induction.
Reflecting on his musical journey, Hager previously played with Boston’s alternative rock band The Elevator Drops during the 1990s.
