Unrelated Drug Arrest Highlights Police Activity

In an unrelated event, Boston Police made an arrest on Sunday connected to drug offenses. A 27-year-old man, identified as Jose Irizarry-Estepan, was taken into custody following a search warrant that uncovered illegal substances.

Officers monitored Irizarry-Estepan and tracked him to a vehicle on Tremont Street. They noted that the vehicle had a defective brake light and excessively tinted windows, prompting a traffic stop. When searching the vehicle, police discovered eight bags of fentanyl, eight bags of crack cocaine, and two bags of powder cocaine. Additionally, an aluminum foil bag containing crack cocaine and marijuana, along with loose marijuana located in the center console, was seized from the vehicle.

Further complicating the situation, a second passenger in the vehicle was found with a prescription bottle that held crushed blue powder and hydromorphone capsules. Irizarry-Estepan now faces four charges of possession with intent to distribute and is scheduled for arraignment in Roxbury District Court. The second passenger will also face legal proceedings regarding charges of possession of a Class A substance, while the vehicle’s driver received citations for defective equipment and possession of an open container of marijuana.

Immigration and Armed Robbery Arrests

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies coordinated efforts leading to the arrest of Emerson Esteban Arias-Polanco, who faces armed robbery charges. Initially apprehended by ICE on November 30, 2023, he was indicted on May 3, 2024, for these serious offenses. The suspect was found to be living in the country illegally, and an immigration detainer was lodged against him. However, the Norfolk County House of Corrections declined to honor the detainer, allowing his release.

ICE subsequently criticized this decision. The collaborative efforts of ICE, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) culminated in Arias-Polanco’s arrest in Boston on March 20, highlighting ongoing efforts to address public safety and illegal activity within the community.

As investigations continue regarding both the shooting and drug arrests, local authorities remain committed to enhancing the safety and integrity of East Boston.
