News Summary

The newly launched South Coast Rail service is improving transport for Fall River residents, linking them to Boston and the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The Greenway, hosting numerous events this summer and fall, offers recreational activities, food trucks, artisan markets, and fitness programs, enriching community engagement and cultural access for locals and visitors alike.

Fall River – The newly operational South Coast Rail service is set to significantly enhance transport options for Fall River residents, providing them with much easier access to Boston and its renowned Rose Kennedy Greenway. The Greenway will be hosting an extensive array of events and programs throughout the summer and into the fall, catering to both locals and visitors alike.

The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy has organized hundreds of events, many of which are free, including food trucks, fitness classes, festivals, and artisan markets. This initiative aims to provide residents with recreational opportunities and promote community engagement. The Greenway is easily accessible via the Fall River Depot train, which connects passengers directly to South Station—located just a short walk from the park.

One of the highlights of the Greenway’s summer offerings is the Greenway Fitness Program, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. This program provides free fitness classes on various activities such as pilates, yoga, dance cardio, self-defense, and Tai Chi. For those interested in fitness schedules, a full calendar can be found on the Greenway’s official website.

While enjoying the surroundings, visitors can indulge in a diverse culinary experience with 22 food trucks operating daily throughout the park. New food vendors introduced for 2025 include Mi Corazon Taqueria, Hungry Nomads, Suya Joint, and Butter “UR” Biscuit, offering various international cuisines that reflect the community’s diversity.

The Greenway Carousel, featuring intricate hand-carved characters inspired by local wildlife, will be open until January 4, 2026. Tickets for this delightful attraction are available both on-site and online, ensuring that families can easily enjoy this charming experience.

Returning for its ninth season, the Trillium Garden is located at the corner of High Street and Atlantic Avenue. This venue offers a selection of food and drink options, enhancing the overall experience for visitors to the Greenway. In addition, Night Shift Brewing at Dewey Square will provide craft beer, seltzer, and nonalcoholic options, as well as host various festivals during the summer.

The weekend schedule at the Greenway features the Greenway Artisan Market, which operates on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until October 25. This market showcases local handmade products, providing a platform for artisans and small businesses to reach a wider audience.

For cultural enthusiasts, the Greenway hosts Lion Dances at the Chinatown Gate on Saturday afternoons until August 30, offering a vibrant display of traditions and festivities. Also, classic movies will be screened as part of the Coolidge on The Greenway: Science on Screen series on July 16 and August 13, where films will be presented on 35mm—creating a nostalgic movie experience.

The Jazz in the Park Summer Concert Series, presented by the North End Music & Performing Arts Center, features live performances on Thursdays from July 10 to August 7. This series is aimed at enhancing the vibrant cultural offerings on the Greenway.

It’s essential to note that all events are subject to weather and scheduling changes. For the latest updates, residents and visitors can visit the Greenway’s official calendar page.

The South Coast Rail service and the events at the Rose Kennedy Greenway provide significant opportunities for Fall River residents to connect with Boston’s cultural and recreational landscape, thus enhancing the community’s access to the city’s diverse offerings this summer and fall.
