Boston – The Massachusetts National Guard has officially launched the “Hometown Hero” Contest, aiming to honor and recognize local residents who have positively impacted their communities. This contest invites residents to nominate deserving individuals, spotlighting the heroes who work tirelessly to make a difference in their neighborhoods.
The contest is open to legal residents of Massachusetts who are at least 18 years old and reside within the WFTX terrestrial viewing area. Notably, employees of WFTX (Boston), LLC, CMG Media Corporation, the Massachusetts National Guard, and related companies are disqualified from participating. Family members and individuals living with eligible employees are also not permitted to enter. While professional actors and filmmakers can participate, they must avoid affiliations with organizations that would incur costs for their involvement.
The entry process is straightforward and free of charge, allowing participants to submit their nominations without any requirement of purchase. Entries can be submitted via the contest registration page on the WFTX website under the “Contests” section, with the contest period running from May 27, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. EST, until July 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. EST. Each participant is limited to one submission during this timeframe.
To nominate someone, participants need to provide a brief explanation, limited to 500 words, detailing why their chosen local resident deserves the Hometown Hero title. This explanation should include the nominee’s name and compelling reasons for their recognition. It is essential that all entries are original and do not infringe on any copyright or trademark rights. Furthermore, any identifiable content included in the nomination must have the nominee’s consent.
The contest prohibits submissions containing inappropriate or defamatory content. Following the closure of the nomination phase, the contest will announce one weekly winner, starting on June 5, 2025, with subsequent winners selected every Thursday at approximately 10:30 a.m. EST. A total of five weekly winners will be announced during the contest’s duration, chosen based on the clarity and composition of their entries, as well as the reasons showcasing the nominees’ positive contributions to their communities.
Nominators of the selected individuals will be contacted using the contact information provided with their entries. It is imperative that potential winners respond to this notification within six hours to claim their prize. In addition, winners will need to complete an affidavit of eligibility and a liability release to claim their rewards. The prizes awarded cannot be exchanged for cash and are non-transferable.
Participants are expected to accept the contest rules and the final decisions made by the sponsors, who retain the right to modify or terminate the contest if unforeseen circumstances arise. Notably, entrants release the sponsors from any liabilities stemming from participation or prize receipt, and all entries will become the property of the contest sponsors and will not be returned.
For those eager to celebrate a local hero, this contest provides the perfect opportunity to acknowledge individuals who exemplify commitment and service to their communities. A complete list of winners will be published after July 15, 2025, giving residents a chance to reflect on and appreciate the invaluable contributions made by these local champions.
