The operation will take place on a public roadway, and motorists will be informed in advance to alleviate any concerns regarding the checkpoint.

State Police Superintendent Colonel Geoffrey Noble confirmed that the sobriety checkpoint will operate during varied hours, ensuring that vehicle selections will not be random. This initiative is supported by a grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, demonstrating the state’s commitment to improving road safety.

The Middlesex County sobriety checkpoint is part of a broader effort to combat impaired driving. Monmouth County, NJ Checkpoints Scheduled

In addition to the Massachusetts effort, the Monmouth County DWI Task Force is set to conduct a sobriety checkpoint in Wall Township, New Jersey. This checkpoint will operate from 9 p.m. on October 26 until 1 a.m. on October 27. Drivers traveling westbound on Route 138 will be diverted onto Maxwell Road for screening.

Collaboration between members of the Monmouth County DWI Task Force and local law enforcement is expected to enhance the effectiveness of the checkpoint, as they work collectively to ensure community safety.

Campaign to Reduce Drunk Driving

Monmouth County has recently implemented several sobriety checkpoints, including one in Middletown earlier in October. This is part of a two-week enforcement campaign involving over 100 towns in New Jersey, which is funded by state grants amounting to $540,680. The campaign, titled “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” runs through Labor Day and seeks to remind drivers of the risks associated with impaired driving.

During similar efforts in previous years, law enforcement made approximately 350 DWI arrests and issued over 1,200 speeding tickets. This year’s statistics indicate that DWI arrests have doubled compared to the earlier campaigns, prompting authorities to collaborate more closely with local personnel to improve overall road safety.

Additional Sobriety Checkpoints Planned

Two more sobriety checkpoints are scheduled for the weekend of October 26-27 in Monmouth County. One will be located on Route 35 in Neptune City from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, where northbound traffic will be diverted at the Steiner Avenue intersection. The second checkpoint will again be on Route 138 in Wall from 10 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday.

The continued presence of sobriety checkpoints aims to encourage responsible behavior among drivers and promote the use of alternative transport solutions for those who may consume alcohol. Local authorities emphasize the importance of being vigilant about drunk driving, and all drivers are encouraged to act responsibly during this heightened enforcement period.
