News Summary

Moe Bradley has been appointed as the assistant coach for the Penn State women’s hockey team, completing the coaching staff under head coach Jeff Kampersal. Bradley, who previously coached at UMass Boston, brings a successful track record, including a Coach of the Year accolade. Her extensive experience and focus on player development are expected to enhance the team’s performance. With this new addition, Penn State aims to strengthen its position in collegiate hockey as they prepare for the upcoming season in ‘Hockey Valley.’

University Park, PA – The Penn State women’s hockey team has announced the hiring of Moe Bradley as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2025-26 season. This addition to the coaching staff completes head coach Jeff Kampersal’s team, which also includes assistants Makenna Newkirk and Jennifer Wakefield.

Bradley brings a wealth of coaching experience to Penn State, having spent the last two seasons as the head coach of the UMass Boston Beacons. During her tenure at UMass Boston, she garnered a record of 21 wins, 26 losses, and 5 ties. The Beacons achieved notable success in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC), finishing with a strong 19-13-4 record in conference play. This performance secured them a fourth-place finish in the 10-team NEHC league for two consecutive seasons.

In recognition of her impactful coaching, Bradley was named the 2024 NEHC Coach of the Year following her first season at UMass Boston. She successfully mentored three players who earned All-Conference selections during her time, including Gianna Skrelja, who achieved All-Rookie Team honors for the 2023-24 season, followed by a Third Team All-Conference recognition in her second year.

Before her head coaching position, Bradley served as an assistant coach at UMass Boston during the 2022-23 season. Her extensive coaching resume includes earlier positions at Stevenson University from 2015 to 2017 and Suffolk University in 2017-2018. Additionally, she was a goaltending coach at Boston College from 2018 to 2022, where she played a significant role in guiding the team to two NCAA tournament appearances. During her time at Boston College, she helped develop goaltender Abigail Levy, a two-time semifinalist for the National Goaltender of the Year award.

Bradley’s playing career began at the University of New Hampshire before she transferred to UMass Boston. As a member of the Beacons, she played in 30 games, starting 28, and recorded an 11-11-7 record. She achieved three shutouts while boasting a .915 save percentage and a 2.23 goals-against average. Her career goals-against average ranks third in UMass Boston history, with a notable single season GAA of 1.58 recorded in the 2013-14 season. Furthermore, her .938 save percentage during her junior year places her eighth in Beacon history.

Head coach Jeff Kampersal has expressed his enthusiasm for Bradley joining the coaching staff, highlighting her strength as a teacher of hockey, her effective communication skills, and her ability to mentor student-athletes. Bradley, sharing in this excitement, noted the significant momentum surrounding the Penn State hockey program, often referred to as “Hockey Valley.”

With Bradley’s addition to the coaching staff, Penn State aims to build upon their existing strengths as they prepare for the upcoming season. The incorporation of her rich coaching background is anticipated to enhance the team’s development and performance on the ice.
