Boston – A one-year-old pit bull Catahoula leopard mix, named Pluto, who was shown being abused in a viral video, is now ready for adoption following his rescue by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA).
The incident took place on June 15 in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, where a person was filmed hitting Pluto with a leash. The disturbing footage generated significant public outrage, leading to increased concern for the dog’s well-being and prompting an influx of calls to the MSPCA.
On June 20, Pluto was surrendered to the MSPCA-Angell after the incident sparked a widespread response from the community. Deborah Bobek, the director of operations at the MSPCA Boston Animal Adoption Center, noted that the dog has experienced a troubled past, having been shuffled through more than half a dozen homes in just six months.
In light of his history, the MSPCA is seeking adopters who can offer him a stable environment and consistent positive training. Due to his previous experiences, an adult-only home is considered the most suitable option for Pluto. The center emphasizes that he is friendly and does not require any advanced medical treatment prior to adoption.
The adoption center welcomes interested adopters to visit Tuesday through Sunday, between noon and 3 p.m., with the exception of July 4. Additionally, in a bid to encourage adoption, Pluto’s adoption fee has been waived as part of the Summer Ruff-Fresher adopt-a-thon event.
The community’s dedication to animal welfare has played a crucial role in ensuring Pluto’s safety. MSCPA Law Enforcement is currently investigating the abuse incident with the assistance of Boston Animal Control, and plans to pursue charges against the individual responsible for the abuse.
Individuals with any information regarding the abuse are encouraged to contact the MSPCA at 617-522-6008 or 800-628-5808, or submit tips online to help with the investigation. Donations to assist in covering Pluto’s care can also be made at mspca.org/pluto.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of animal abuse and the importance of community vigilance in safeguarding the welfare of animals. As this case unfolds, the MSPCA continues to advocate for the safety and well-being of animals and welcomes the support of the public in ensuring that dogs like Pluto find the loving homes they deserve.
