Festivalgoers revel in the energetic atmosphere of the Portland Summer Music Weekend.
The Ultimate Summer Music Weekend is set to take place in Portland, featuring a diverse lineup of musical styles from yacht rock to heavy metal. Acts like Guster and Hanson will perform across multiple venues, with special events including harbor cruises and kayaking. The festival aims to revive Portland’s music scene while showcasing local talent and major performances, including John Williams’ Film Night and the return of the Best Day Ever festival in September.
The Ultimate Summer Music Weekend (USMW) is scheduled to take place from August 7 to 10, 2025, featuring a vibrant lineup of musical styles that range from beachy vibes and yacht rock to blockbuster symphonic scores and heavy metal.
The festival kicks off with a variety of music events across Portland, showcasing renowned artists and bands at multiple venues. Notably, Guster’s On the Ocean Festival will run from August 8 to 10 at the State Theater and Thompson’s Point, where Guster will headline two nights. The lineup includes performances from popular acts such as Hanson, The Mountain Goats, Fruit Bats, Joy Oladokun, Karina Rykman, and Joe & Marc Pisapia. In addition, a features variety show, Hits & Bits, is set to take place on Friday at the State Theatre as part of this festival.
Enhancing the festival experience, Guster has curated special nautical activities for fans, including harbor cruises and kayaking trips.
Also part of USMW is the Yacht Rock Revue, which will perform at the Leader Bank Pavilion on August 8 and 9. Their setlist will focus on classic songs, featuring beloved hits like “Africa” and “Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl)”.
Music lovers can also look forward to John Williams’ Film Night scheduled for August 9 at Tanglewood, where the Boston Pops will perform iconic soundtracks from films such as “Jaws”, “Star Wars”, and “Jurassic Park”. Additionally, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band will take the stage at Ocean Mist in South Kingstown on August 9.
Closing out the weekend, Andy Frasco & The U.N. will perform at the Beachcomber in Wellfleet on August 10 as part of their New England tour.
The Somergloom festival will take place from August 7 to 9 at Deep Cuts in Medford and Crystal Ballroom in Somerville, featuring heavy music acts such as Sumac and Body Void. This eclectic mix underscores Portland’s diverse musical landscape and its recovery from the pandemic’s impact.
Portland will see a resurgence in its festival scene in summer 2025 as several concerts and festivals are planned across the city. Key locations for these events include Pioneer Courthouse Square and Providence Park.
However, not all is as expansive as it appears; the long-standing Waterfront Blues Festival has announced it will downscale from four days to two due to rising expenses.
