Dorchester – A 66-year-old man from Roxbury faces charges related to a brutal home invasion and assault on an elderly friend. Juan Blanco is accused of knocking the victim unconscious and stealing his Social Security debit card during the incident, which took place on April 9 at approximately 1:30 p.m.

The victim, a 68-year-old man, suffered serious injuries that included a swollen and bloody nose and lip. According to reports, the assault occurred at the victim’s residence on Bowdoin Street in Dorchester. Boston police received a call regarding the home invasion promptly after the incident unfolded.

Details indicate that Blanco knocked on the victim’s door between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. When the victim opened the door, having recognized Blanco as a friend, Blanco allegedly struck him in the face with the back of a knife. This violent act caused the victim to fall and lose consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, he immediately contacted the police, feeling dizzy and encircled by a pool of his own blood.

In addition to assaulting the victim, Blanco is accused of stealing the victim’s Social Security Direct Express Card, which contained approximately $1,000. Notably, the card had the PIN written on the back, making it easy for the accused to access the victim’s funds.

Following the attack, detectives quickly moved to investigate the incident. They obtained an arrest warrant for Blanco after the victim was able to identify him through a photo array. This identification played a crucial role in the police’s efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect.

Blanco’s criminal history is extensive and includes multiple convictions for assault and battery as well as assault with a deadly weapon. This background raises concerns about the risk he poses to the community. Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden expressed the tragic nature of the incident, noting that the victim had placed his trust in Blanco, considering him a friend.

Blanco is currently being held without bail following his arrest. He is set to appear in Dorchester District Court for arraignment on Friday, where formal charges will be presented. The court proceedings will determine the next steps in this disturbing case.

The community is left shaken by the incident, as the assault highlights the vulnerabilities faced by the elderly population. Many neighbors expressed their disbelief at the incident, emphasizing the importance of trusting one’s instincts regarding personal safety. As this case unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
