New Haven, CT – The Yale Women’s Golf Team has been making waves in the collegiate golf scene, showcasing their remarkable skills and determination under the leadership of captain Alexis Kim and other talented players. The journey began in September 2021, and since then, the team has certainly put their mark on the scorecards.
The whirlwind of success kicked off at the Boston College Invitational, where Yale made an impressive entrance by clinching the top position. Both Kim and fellow teammate Sophie Simon wasted no time showcasing their talent, finishing strong at second and tenth place individually in the same event. This was just the beginning of what would grow into a solid foundation for the team.
As they progressed through the 2021-22 season, the team recorded a fantastic tie for second place at the Yale Invitational, along with a triumphant victory at the Ford Invitational in Georgia. Although the journey was paved with opportunities, they faced challenges head-on, wrapping up the season by finishing fourth at the Ivy League Championships.
The season was particularly notable for Ami Gianchandani, who not only served as captain but was also honored as the Ivy League Player of the Year. Her incredible talent propelled her all the way to qualifying for the prestigious US Open in 2022, further highlighting her status as a key player in the collegiate golf world.
The team’s momentum continued into the 2022-23 season, where they seized victory at the Princeton Invitational with a 12-stroke lead. This remarkable win came from the collective efforts of Kim, Gianchandani, and Mia Sessa. Keeping the spirits high, Yale secured a second place finish at the Navy Invitational as well. They maintained an inspiring performance, once again concluding the Ivy Championships in fourth place.
The accolades didn’t stop there! During this season, Kim made headlines by earning All-Ivy honors, while both she and Simon were proudly named Scholar All-Americans. Their hard work on and off the course truly paid off.
The following season, 2023-24, was vibrant with success as Yale celebrated victories, including wins at both the Yale Invitational and the Columbia Classic. Kim’s selection as captain for her senior year in May 2024 brought a sense of pride and responsibility, and she certainly rose to the occasion. Under her keen leadership, she delivered impressive performances, including a remarkable hole-in-one at the Lady Blue Hen Invitational and strong showings at the Augusta Invitational.
Despite the fierce competition, the team tied for fifth at the Ivy Championships, demonstrating resilience and teamwork. The accolades continued to pour in; both Kim and Sessa were recognized with All-Ivy honors at the close of the season.
