BOSTON, Mass. — An 18-year-old Texas man now faces a grand jury indictment in Boston in the August killing of a Tennessee man who was stabbed inside South Station, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office, which announced the indictment Tuesday.
Marico Levy, of Aubrey, Texas, faces the indictment in the killing of Latavius Owens, 29, of Memphis, Tennessee. Levy gave himself up at a police station in Texas last week after more than two months as a named suspect.
The stabbing happened on Aug. 12. MBTA Police were called to the busy rail and bus hub on Atlantic Avenue a little after 5:30 p.m. Officers located Owens wounded inside the terminal. He was rushed to a hospital and could not be saved.
Investigators believe the two men began arguing and fighting while riding an escalator toward one of the station’s exits, and the clash turned deadly. Authorities have not said what set off the confrontation or how they came to identify Levy.
Investigators with the MBTA Police put out still photos of Levy taken from station cameras on Aug. 18 and asked anyone who knew where he was to call. He was 17 when that wanted notice was issued, and investigators spent the following weeks trying to track him down.
Before the grand jury acted, Levy had already been arrested on a murder charge. He walked into a Texas police station on Friday night, ending a search that had stretched on since mid-August. He will face arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court, but no date has been scheduled. It was not clear when he would return to Massachusetts or whether he has a lawyer. Police continue to ask anyone who saw the fight to come forward with tips while prosecutors prepare to bring Levy before a judge in Boston.
