Parade, Half Marathon Bring Weekend Parking Limits in Boston

BOSTON, Mass. — Drivers in Boston face a busy weekend of parking limits and closures, with a Veterans Day parade rolling through downtown on Saturday and two road races taking over streets on Sunday, according to city and Boston Police Department advisories.

The Salute to Service parade steps off at noon Saturday from Copley Square. Marchers head up Boylston Street, turn left onto Tremont Street against the normal flow of traffic, then continue onto Cambridge Street and wrap up at City Hall Plaza.

For the parade, cars cannot park on either side of Boylston between Hereford and Tremont streets, along Tremont from Boylston to Cambridge, or on Cambridge from Tremont to New Chardon Street. The Boston Common side of Beacon Street is also off-limits between Charles and Walnut streets.

On Sunday, the Boston Athletic Association holds its yearly Half Marathon. Restrictions cover the Copley Square side of Boylston between Dartmouth and Clarendon streets and a cluster of roads around Franklin Park, including Circuit Drive, Playstead Road, Seaver Street and Walnut Avenue.

The angled parking spaces on Pierpont Road by the playing field, between Glen Lane and Playstead Road, close on both Saturday and Sunday for the race.

Also Sunday, the Thomas M. Menino YMCA runs its Hyde Park Road Race at 9 a.m., starting and finishing at 11 Fairmount Avenue with a loop along Truman Highway, Aberdeen Road and a Neponset River Reservation path. Parking is barred on both sides of Fairmount Avenue from River Street to Truman Parkway.

City officials are urging people headed to the events to walk, bike or ride public transit, and the MBTA suggests buying a round-trip ticket to speed the trip home.
